Job opportunities
The Centro de Astrofisica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP) invites
applications for postdoctoral (PD) and advanced postdoctoral (APD)
positions in the field of Stellar Structure and Evolution.

The financial support is provided by the EUROPEAN NETWORK IN HELIO AND
ASTEROSEISMOLOGY, with funds from the European Commission
(FP6-2004-Infrastructures-5-026138) and national funds from FCT (from
POCI with a participation from FEDER: POCI/010.6/B094/2005). The
positions are for one year, renewable up to two or three years. The
annual allowance will be 17 940 euros (PD) or 24 720 euros (APD), after
taxes. Benefits (social contribution and insurance) are also provided.

CAUP is a young and active research institute situated at the main
campus of the University of Porto. It is the largest astrophysics
institute in the country and the only one ranked excellent in this area
by the national science foundation evaluation. The current staff
includes 21 researchers and about 40 postgraduate students (Ph.D.
students and two Master Programs). As a CAUP member the postdoc will
have access to all facilities, including also travel money and the
opportunity to involve students in her/his research.

The activities on Stellar Structure and Evolution at CAUP cover the
seismic study of solar-type and moderate-mass stars, from the pre-main
sequence up to more advanced stages of evolution. It also covers the
modelling of stellar evolution and the observational characterisation of
stars across the HR diagramme. Both theoretical and observational work
is carried out by the group. The postdoc will be actively involved in
the HELAS activities (up to 50% of the time) on solar and stellar
modelling and outreach. She/he is also expected to be involved on the
scientific exploitation of the CoRoT mission (CNES/France - launched in
2006) and other ground-based observational programmes for the seismic
and spectroscopic characterisation of solar-type stars.

Applicants should forward (preferably, by email):
(1) the curriculum vitae,
(2) a description of the proposed research plan,
(3) the name, address and email of three referees.

Applications will be received from the 13th to the 27th of February 2007
and the contracts will start as soon as possible. The inquiries on the
applications and on the details of the grants, as well as the
application (a PDF file sent by email is the preferred option) should
be directed to:
